Getting started
I installed Essentials but I can't find it.
After installing, click the puzzle-piece Extensions icon in your browser toolbar and pin Essentials. The icon will appear directly in your toolbar.
How do I add a site?
Three ways:
- Open the popup and click + in the header (or the big + on the empty grid). The Add Essential sheet lets you pin the current tab, paste a URL, or pick from any open tab.
- Right-click any link or page in your browser and pick Add to Essentials.
- Drag any link into the popup while it's open.
How do I rename, edit, or remove an essential?
- Rename: click the label under the tile and type a new name.
- Edit the URL, move to another space, or delete: right-click the tile.
- Reorder: drag the tile.
- Delete: right-click → Delete, or drag the tile onto the trash zone that appears at the bottom of the popup while you drag.

Which browsers does Essentials support?
This version runs in Firefox on desktop (Windows, macOS, and Linux). On a Chromium-based browser instead? See Essentials for Chrome.
What do I need to run Essentials?
Firefox for desktop on Windows, macOS, or Linux.
Can I export my essentials?
Yes — open Essentials Settings → Sync tab → Export JSON… under Manual. You get a JSON file you can re-import on another device or keep as a backup.
I'm seeing the wrong favicon for a site.
Right-click the tile and pick Replace icon… to upload your own image (PNG, JPEG, WebP, or SVG). Your choice syncs across your devices and sticks until you reset it. Auth-walled sites and brand-redirected hosts sometimes hand us a generic icon — this is the cleanest fix.
To revert to the auto-resolved icon, right-click and pick Reset icon. Some sites also serve different icons to different browsers; the one we see first wins.
Sync isn't working on my second device.
Check the Sync tab in Essentials Settings on both devices. Both devices need to be signed into the same browser account with sync enabled, and the toggle in Essentials has to be on. After enabling, sync usually settles within 30 seconds.
Is there a Safari version?
Yes — Essentials for Safari is available on the Mac App Store for macOS 14+.

Keyboard shortcuts
- ⌘⇧E — toggle the popup. Configurable in Firefox at about:addons → the gear menu → Manage Extension Shortcuts.
- ⌥1 – ⌥9 — open the Nth essential on the current page of the active space (with the popup open).
- ⌃1 – ⌃9 — switch to space N (with the popup open).
